From online courses, to university programmes, we consider some of the leading AI certifications that facilitate better AI and machine learning education

In the midst of AI developing so quickly, there are ever-increasing talent shortages and skills gaps that need addressing. As a result, increasing numbers of AI courses and programmes are being offered.

According to a 2023 report by Capgemini, 60% of teachers accept that interacting with AI systems will be a key skill that is required for jobs in the future of work, with 82% agreeing that education in digital skills for national and state curriculums should be compulsory.

With this in mind, AI Magazine explores some of the leading AI certifications around the world committed to advancing the next generation of AI developers.

10. ARTiBA: Artificial Intelligence Engineer (AIE) Certification Process

The Artificial Intelligence Board of America (ARTiBA) is offering an intermediate-level Artificial Intelligence Engineer (AIE) certification. It is US$550 to complete and is one of the most credible AI certifications for engineers wishing to upskill their career in AI and machine learning.

ARTiBA programmes have broken new grounds in future-ready academic and professional learning in AI. Those that sign up for the course will get a copy of the AI Engineer’s Handbook Practice, in addition to an AiE Study Guide.

9. US AI Institute: Certified Artificial Intelligence Scientist (CAIS)

The CAIS is a certification program designed for senior AI professionals and enterprise leaders to develop suitable AI solutions and strategies to enact business transformation for their organisation. It develops must-have skill sets and the latest technological knowledge to manage complex projects to develop automation.

This course spans anywhere between 4-25 weeks and offers study books, self-paced videos and practice code to facilitate learning. Designed for students at intermediate or advanced level and offers flexible payment options.

8. DeepLearning.AI: AI for Everyone

DeepLearning.AI is an education technology company that aims to empower the global workforce to build an AI-powered future via a world-class education, hands-on training and a collaborative community. AI for Everyone is a non-technical course that aims to help the student understand AI technologies and spot opportunities to apply AI to everyday challenges.

This 6 hour course takes place on the Coursera platform and comprises beginner-level video lectures and readings. Individual course purchase is US$49.

7. Stanford School of Engineering: Artificial Intelligence Graduate Certificate

This graduate certificate offered by Stanford is one of the university’s most popular courses and provides a deep dive into the principles and methodologies of AI. Students can select their pathway from a variety of electives and tailor the course to their interests, including natural language processing (NLP), vision, data mining and robotics.

It is taught by the likes of Andrew Ng, Christopher Manning, Chelsea Finn, Percy Liang and Jeannette Bohg. Course length ranges between one to three years depending on the pace of the learner and costs between US$18,928 and US$23,296.

6. IBM AI Engineering Professional Certificate

From IBM, this AI course is designed to help the student prepare for a career in machine learning. It facilitates the ability to gain the in-demand practical skills and hands-on experience to become AI-job-ready in less than 3 months.

The course is two months in duration, consisting of 10 hours per week, with users being able to enrol for free. Consisting of video lectures and readings, the course is designed at intermediate level and can be completed via the Coursera platform.

5. Udemy: Artificial Intelligence A-Z 2023: Build an AI with ChatGPT4

Facilitated by the SuperDataScience team, alongside other instructors, this 17 hour course is designed to enable students to combine the power of data science, machine learning and deep learning to create powerful AI for real-world applications. 

From learning code self-improving AI, to gaining access to Python code templates, the course offers tutorials to help develop a deep understanding of AI. It focuses on building intuition in coding AI to make for better long-term results and solid solutions.

4. Harvard University: Computer Science for AI

Harvard offers a five-month AI course that is US$448 and consists of self-paced videos for students who are at beginner or mid-level understanding of AI. The online course is taught by leading faculty members and is designed to solve important real-world problems and future-proof the learner’s career in AI and machine learning.

The video series consists of learning common programming languages and a foundation through CS50’s Introduction to Artificial Intelligence with Python. Students will be able to complete practical projects and gain exposure to AI theory.

3. UC Berkeley: Artificial Intelligence: Business Strategies and Applications

The University of California, Berkeley, offers a two-month programme costing US$2,800 for intermediate learners of AI. Consisting of video lectures, readings and case studies, the course is designed for senior managers and C-suite executives overseeing the integration of AI into their organisation's business strategy.

As part of the course, participants will be able to learn the current capabilities of AI and its future potential, in addition to how to leverage generative AI (Gen AI) models and manage successful projects. 

2. Fundamentals of Google AI for Web-Based Machine Learning

This self-guided programme is designed to help the student understand what AI really is. Course content covers why data is important and demonstrates the relationship between data, machine learning and AI to help discuss and use these technologies with others.

It is a beginner-level course that covers the basics of how AI is and can be used in the real world. Learning from Google AI experts and practitioners, course participants can explore what machine learning programming looks like at a high level learning techniques such as neural networks

1. Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Engineer Associate

This course by Microsoft is designed for existing AI engineers that want to pass the certification exam. Offering a range of study resources, the course tests a range of skills, including planning and managing an Azure AI solution and implementing decision support and computer vision solutions.

In addition, it tests the ability of the engineer to utilise natural language processing (NLP) solutions, in addition to assessing their skills in knowledge mining and Gen AI. It offers different resources to prepare for the exam based on personal preference, including self-paced learning or instructor-led.
