Klarna & Google Cloud: Enhancing AI-Powered Personalisation

Global digital bank and flexible payments provider Klarna is entering into a partnership with Google Cloud.
The collaboration aims to use AI to personalise the shopping experience for Klarna’s 114 million consumers – a move that comes as the fintech sector increases its AI adoption to improve services.
The partnership will see Klarna utilise Google Cloud’s comprehensive AI stack, which includes infrastructure and models.
This integration is intended to speed up the development of consumer-focused products and creative marketing campaigns.
AI-driven creativity and personalisation
David Sandström, Klarna’s Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), has been central to shaping the company’s AI strategy.
“At Klarna, we’re not just adopting AI to streamline operations – we’re using it to rethink creativity itself," he says.
“By combining Google Cloud’s leading AI models with Klarna’s consumer insights, we can craft experiences that feel smarter and more personal."
He continues: “Early pilots already show the potential: AI-driven creative concepts from dynamic digital lookbooks to hyper-personalised product campaigns boosted time spent in our app by 15% and increased orders by 50%.
“For us, this is proof that when creativity meets AI, the results can transform the way people shop”.
Initially, the collaboration will focus on two main areas to enrich the customer journey inside the Klarna app.
Klarna will use Google’s generative media models like Veo 2 and Gemini 2.5 Flash Image to produce dynamic digital “lookbooks" and generate highly personalised marketing campaigns.
The partnership will also apply AI to enhance Klarna’s image library, which contains over 200 million images to refine visuals for a more engaging user experience.
Strategic AI integration in fintech
This partnership reflects a wider trend in the fintech industry where AI is becoming an important tool for innovation and growth.
Other major companies, such as Revolut, have also broadened their partnerships with Google Cloud to use AI for global expansion and to improve fraud detection capabilities.
Klarna’s decision to integrate AI so deeply into its platform is consistent with its strategic direction.
Klarna has been actively leveraging AI as a core part of its strategy with a focus on improving the customer experience.
This collaboration with Google Cloud could be seen as a key step in bolstering its technological capabilities and market position following its public listing.
Enhancing security with advanced AI
The collaboration also extends to operational security.
Klarna will use Google Cloud’s AI hardware and expertise to help combat fraud and money laundering. This will be accomplished by training and deploying graph neural networks.
These are advanced machine learning (ML) models designed to analyse complex connections between users’ transactions and devices, allowing for the detection of suspicious patterns with greater accuracy.
“To lead in this new AI era, businesses require more than tools – they need strategic capabilities. Our partnership with Klarna is about providing just that,” says Marianne Janik, Vice-President (VP) EMEA North at Google Cloud.
“Our integrated AI-optimised platform and cutting-edge models are enabling Klarna to unlock creative velocity and drive innovation. We’re proud to help Klarna not just adopt AI but also use it to fundamentally redefine the customer experience.”
The alliance between Klarna and Google Cloud indicates a notable progression in the use of AI within the fintech and e-commerce sectors.
By concentrating on both creative innovation and strong security measures, the collaboration seeks to establish a new benchmark for personalised and secure online shopping.
As AI technology continues to develop, partnerships like this one will likely continue to shape the future of the digital marketplace.
