The country’s varied driving conditions, from high-speed Autobahns to urban streets and winter weather challenges, offer a valuable environment for refining and validating the company’s AI-driven Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS).

The new facility, based in Baden-Württemberg, will focus on enhancing the company's capabilities such as lane change assistance while also advancing automated driving solutions designed for large-scale production.

Supporting Germany’s automotive innovation

Wayve’s presence in Germany aligns with the country’s rich history of pioneering automotive innovation and technologies like artificial intelligence.

With access to a highly skilled engineering workforce, the company aims to accelerate its product development and collaborate with German automakers and Tier 1 suppliers, particularly in software development.

Alex Kendall, Co-Founder and CEO of Wayve

Wayve’s Co-Founder and CEO, Alex Kendall, emphasises the importance of this expansion, stating: "2025 is a year of global expansion for Wayve and we are incredibly excited to establish operations in Germany. With its rich automotive heritage and deep engineering expertise, Germany is a perfect place to accelerate the development and deployment of AI-powered driving technology.

"I look forward to partnering with Germany's world-leading manufacturers and Tier 1 suppliers to bring safe, scalable and production-ready AI software to vehicles worldwide."

Dr Patrick Rapp, State Secretary at the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour and Tourism of the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg, also welcomes the move.

"The State government very much welcomes the planned settlement of Wayve in Baden-Württemberg.," he says. "Innovations in the areas of vehicle automation and digitalisation are key drivers of the current structural change in the automotive industry and a basic requirement for maintaining the technological competitiveness of the German automotive industry.

"Baden-Württemberg laid the foundations early on to specifically promote the future technology of AI. We cover a diverse spectrum from basic research to application-oriented, business-related research. As a leading developer of Embodied AI technology, Wayve thus meets a network of strong partners and users in Baden-Württemberg."

Driving AI-powered mobility at scale

Wayve’s expansion into Germany is a significant step in its global strategy. Following a successful $1.05bn Series C funding round and established testing programmes in the UK and US, the company aims to position its technology as a scalable, vehicle-agnostic platform that can be integrated into any vehicle.

With the automotive industry increasingly shifting towards AI-driven mobility solutions, Wayve's next-generation AV2.0 technology moves beyond traditional autonomous driving systems by pioneering a novel end-to-end AI driving model.

Wayve strengthens its global presence with a new testing hub in Germany

Unlike conventional models that rely on high-definition maps and complex sensor networks, AV2.0 enables AI to learn directly from real-world driving data. This allows the system to adapt to new and unpredictable road conditions in real time, enhancing safety, efficiency and scalability.

AV2.0 also serves as the basis for exploring other AI applications. Wayve is currently investing in R&D to advance capabilities in areas such as AI explainability, photorealistic simulation capabilities and a generative AI model capable of predicting future events with unparalleled accuracy.

With its successful deployments in the UK and US, Wayve’s entry into Germany strengthens its role in shaping the future of AI-driven mobility.

By leveraging Germany’s advanced automotive ecosystem, the company plans to refine its technology, deepen strategic partnerships and accelerate the adoption of Embodied AI in the automotive sector.

As the industry moves towards intelligent mobility, Wayve’s expansion represents a key milestone in the global development of AI-powered vehicle automation.
