Meta Llama 2 to be hosted on IBM Watson

IBM has announced that it is integrating Meta’s Llama 2 model into its watsonx AI platform to foster further responsible and innovative AI development

IBM has announced plans to make Meta’s Llama 2 platform available within its watsonx AI and data platform.

The company will host Meta’s Llama 2-chat 70 billion parameter model in watsonx.ai studio and ultimately work to build upon IBM’s continued collaboration with Meta. In addition, it aims to support IBM’s efforts to offer businesses both IBM and third-party AI models in watsonx.

It also follows IBM’s release last week of its watsonx.ai geospatial foundation model that was built with NASA’s satellite data on open-source AI platform, Hugging Face, in efforts to democratise access to the latest AI models.

Building AI models in a trustworthy and open environment

Llama 2 is Meta’s latest open-source AI model and is designed to hopefully promote further responsible and safe AI use within the technology industry. It was pre-trained on publicly available online data sources.

Meta also released a use guide for Llama 2 that provides best practices and considerations for building products powered by LLMs in a responsible way, covering various stages of development from inception to deployment.

Similarly, IBM watsonx is designed to enable businesses to build and adapt AI models with their own data in a trustworthy and open environment. The company is planning to host Meta’s Llama 2-chat 70 billion parameter model in the watsonx.ai studio, with work on open source projects developed by Meta.

The partnership ultimately supports IBM’s company strategy to offer both third-party and its own AI models. The company states that it is committed to keeping trust and security principles at the forefront of developing generative AI. When users run the Llama 2 model through watsonx.ai, they can automatically remove harmful language from the input prompt text as well as output generated by the model.

Meta is also able to provide an account of its fine-tuning methodology used in their large language models (LLMs).

Responsible and ethical AI development is more important than ever before, as more businesses work to incorporate generative AI capabilities into their operations. It is therefore significant when large companies collaborate to ensure positive developments.

IBM Consulting has 21,000 data, AI and automation consultants in addition to its Centre of Excellence for generative AI. Company experts aim to work with clients to help develop AI models for targeted use cases for specific business requirements.

Both companies support open innovation when it comes to AI and so they see the value in engaging with the community of builders and researchers to test, share feedback and collaborate on technologies to work towards digital transformation.
