Meta’s AI App: With Personalised, Voice-Enabled Experiences

In its first step toward building a context-aware, conversational assistant that integrates AI into everyday life more intuitively and humanely, Meta has launched the Meta AI App.
The app offers a more personalised experience and is built on its new Llama 4 model. It allows users to engage via text or voice naturally by widening access to Meta AI beyond its integrations across Facebook, WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram.
The app strives to make personal AI responsive, accessible and integrated into daily life by being crafted to be used anywhere.
In its announcement, Meta explains: “Meta AI is built to get to know you, so its answers are more helpful. It’s easy to talk to, so it’s more seamless and natural to interact with.
“It’s more social, so it can show you things from the people and places you care about.
“And you can use Meta AI’s voice features while multitasking and doing other things on your device, with a visible icon to let you know when the microphone is in use.”
What makes The Meta AI App unique?
Meta AI has now extended its functionality through a dedicated mobile app crafted to be helpful, natural and socially connected.
This means that the app offers an intuitive speaking interface and seamless multitasking to tailor to voice conversations.
It understands contextual cues and learns user preferences to deliver more relevant and personal responses and recalls facts the user has shared and responds accordingly.
The app supports image editing and generation through text and voice input. Users can also explore how others are using AI and remix prompts through a Discover feed – and this content is only shared when the user chooses to post it.
It additionally allows for more real-time, natural voice conversations through a full-duplex speed demo – this is where the AI creates spoken replies directly.
Furthermore, the app works alongside Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, allowing users to start conversations on their glasses and continue them on the web or within the app.
Voice, personalisation and integration
The app establishes a new standard for how AI assistants function across devices and platforms by embracing personalisation, voice and integration as core pillars.
It positions voice as the primary mode of engagement.
Not only is it multitasking-friendly, allowing users to talk to the app while doing other things on their device, but it also features a ready-to-talk toggle, allowing users to keep voice mode active by default, making AI access quick.
Additionally, the app offers relevant, tailored responses that reflect users' interests and behaviours by learning from user input.
If users connect their Instagram and Facebook accounts via Meta’s Accounts Centre, the app can call upon engagement history and profile data to personalise interactions.
This personalisation offers a more adaptive, human-like assistant.
Furthermore, the web version is optimised for screens and workflows and supports the same image and voice features as the app.
Users can also remix, browse and share AI prompts across devices through a social layer.
Meta says: “We’re using our decades of work personalising people’s experiences on our platforms to make Meta AI more personal.
“You can tell Meta AI to remember certain things about you (like that you love to travel and learn new languages) and it can also pick up important details based on context.
“Your Meta AI assistant also delivers more relevant answers to your questions by drawing on information you’ve already chosen to share on Meta products, like your profile, and content you like or engage with.”
In January 2025, Mark Zuckerburg, CEO of Meta, said he believed 2025 “is going to be the year when a highly intelligent and personalised AI assistant reaches more than 1 billion people and I expect Meta AI to be that leading AI assistant.”
