Chinese tech giant, Alibaba Cloud, grows partnerships by leveraging generative AI to drive growth in automotive, gaming and education sectors

The transformative impact of AI is evident across multiple industries, from healthcare, where AI assists in disease diagnosis and drug discovery, to finance, where it powers algorithmic trading and fraud detection.

Yet whilst AI is reshaping industries across the world, Alibaba Cloud, the cloud computing division of Chinese e-commerce firm Alibaba Group, has emerged as a key player.

Alibaba Cloud's generative AI (Gen AI) platform, Model Studio, has exemplified this growth, with its customer base surging from 90,000 in May to over 300,000.

The company has achieved a surge in its AI services and gained new partnerships across various sectors, including automotive, construction, travel and gaming.

Automotive and construction industry innovations

The report says that Model Studio is powered by Alibaba's proprietary Tongyi foundational model, a sophisticated system designed to understand and generate human-like text and data.

This large language model (LLM) can process and generate natural language, making it versatile across various applications.

For example, in the automotive industry, Alibaba Cloud has partnered with NVIDIA, a graphics processing unit manufacturer, to develop a LMM solution.

This collaboration aims to enhance in-car voice assistants, enabling them to engage in complex conversations and provide contextual recommendations.

The technology could revolutionise driver-vehicle interactions, offering a more intuitive and personalised driving experience.

XPENG, a Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, is already utilising Alibaba Cloud's AI models to improve its smart cockpit experience.

The AI-powered technology allows for more intuitive voice commands and personalised features, such as custom car sticker designs generated by AI.

Jingren Zhou, CTO of Alibaba Cloud

Jingren Zhou, CTO of Alibaba Cloud, says: "Our collaborations with industry-leading organisations demonstrate our dedication to delivering enhanced customer experiences and boosting enterprise efficiency through innovative solutions."

These AI applications could extend to the construction industry, potentially integrating voice-controlled systems into building management or construction equipment to enhance safety and efficiency on job sites.

Gaming and travel AI applications

Meanwhile in the gaming sector, Alibaba Cloud has provided crucial infrastructure support for miHoYo, a Chinese video game developer, in launching its new game "Zenless Zone Zero".

The cloud services helped manage high server loads and process large volumes of game data, facilitating a smooth launch for the game which received nearly 50 million pre-beta registrations.

This demonstrates the scalability and robustness of Alibaba Cloud's AI-powered infrastructure, crucial in an industry where user experience and server performance are paramount.

For the travel industry, Alibaba Cloud is supporting Atlas, a Singapore-based travel technology provider.

Atlas leverages Alibaba's infrastructure and AI services to power its digital chatbot, which provides customer support for over 50 global travel sellers and 150 low-cost airlines.

This application showcases AI's potential to enhance efficiency and user experience in customer service, handling a large volume of queries simultaneously and allowing human staff to focus on more complex tasks.

AI for educational initiatives

Recognising the importance of AI education, Alibaba Cloud has also signed an agreement with UNESCO-ICHEI to launch an online certification programme in generative AI and cloud computing.

The programme targets educators and students in higher education institutes across Asia and Africa, aiming to benefit around 12,000 individuals by the end of 2025.

This initiative addresses the growing need for AI literacy across various sectors, helping to build a workforce capable of driving future innovations in these fields.

Zhou emphasises the company's commitment to democratising AI technology: "Together with our partners, we want to empower more businesses and individuals to unlock the potential of generative AI through digital training and accessible cloud solutions."
