SAP’s AI solutions are enhancing EHS management by enabling proactive compliance, safer workplaces and smarter sustainability strategies

The increasing complexity of environmental challenges and regulatory demands means companies can no longer rely solely on basic compliance.

There’s a growing expectation for organisations to showcase environmental stewardship, anticipate potential risks and align operations with sustainable goals.

SAP addresses these needs by evolving its Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) Management system into an AI-driven, modular suite designed to advance businesses toward a low-impact, regenerative future.

A new chapter for environmental management

SAP is making considerable advancements in its environmental management tools, shifting away from conventional methods that focused solely on monitoring waste, emissions and water-related impacts.

Today, SAP’s EHS integrates AI capabilities to streamline regulatory compliance and reporting.

Notable innovations include automated extraction of regulatory requirements that simplify permit management.

This development reduces labor-intensive manual tasks, enabling users to execute processes with increased precision and efficiency.

SAP’s vision encompasses providing businesses with proactive regulatory insights, allowing anticipation and adaptation to legal changes ahead of time.

By consolidating compliance documentation through a unified portal, businesses experience enhanced audit readiness and a significant reduction in compliance preparation time.

Safety through smart systems

The transformation extends to workplace safety, with SAP S/4HANA Workplace Safety features now incorporating AI to enhance usability, automate documentation and provide real-time performance insights.

The system harmonises safety performance, operational risk and incident management under a singular process.

AI-generated safety instructions enhance clarity and comprehension, aiding teams in understanding hazards and managing controls effectively.

According to SAP, this approach could reduce documentation time by up to 70%, allowing teams to focus on prevention and improvement.

New features include integrated risk assessments linking hazards to protocols, real-time safety data analysis for proactive management and AI-assisted instruction using clear, inclusive language to minimise misunderstandings and optimise execution.
