SAP announced intention to acquire MDM provider Reltio to accelerate enterprise agentic deployments by making its data AI-ready

AI is only as good as the data it is trained on.

In a move designed to make enterprise data AI-ready, SAP will acquire Reltio – a leading master data management (MDM) software provider.

The deal is expected to close in the second or third quarter of 2026, subject to customary regulatory approvals.

The acquisition will strengthen SAP Business Data Cloud (SAP BDC) – a core component of SAP’s AI-First and Suite-First strategy.

Once integrated, Reltio’s platform will enable SAP customers to unify, cleanse and harmonise data from SAP and non-SAP sources, providing a reliable foundation for enterprise-wide AI applications.

“Reltio is a natural fit with SAP,” says Muhammad Alam, member of the Executive Board of SAP SE, SAP Product & Engineering.

“Acquiring them will further improve our position as a leading business AI provider, combining SAP and non-SAP data to deliver data context that business AI requires.

“AI cannot reach its full potential when data is fragmented across business units, platforms and domains without connection or context.”

Enhancing operations with trusted data

Reltio’s cloud-native platform uses AI-based entity resolution to identify and merge related records from diverse applications into what is called a single “golden record.”

This cloud-native, AI-first system ensures consistent, high-quality data across customers, products, suppliers, locations and employees.

By providing a single source of truth, SAP aims to improve the reliability and accuracy of AI-driven insights in business.

Customers will benefit from faster time-to-value for business AI, as Reltio’s data unification capabilities reduce complexity and enhance the performance of SAP AI tools such as Joule and Joule Agents.

With higher quality data, organisations can develop “superior enterprise-wide agentic AI”.

A strong partnership for enterprise AI

Reltio’s agent-driven workflows and data-cleansing capabilities will complement SAP Business Suite applications, enabling organisations to make more informed decisions and streamline business processes.

“Joining forces with SAP presents a tremendous opportunity for us to accelerate our mission,” says Reltio Founder and CEO, Manish Sood.

“Enterprise AI needs trusted context that is open and interoperable across the heterogeneous IT landscapes our customers run.

“This combination accelerates our ability to deliver Reltio as the system of context across SAP and non-SAP environments, while maintaining continuity for our customers and our partner ecosystem.”

Low latency delivery and its support for the Model Context Protocol allow for real-time, multiagent workflows.

An example would be an AI procurement agent assessing supplier risk and triggering actions instantly using trusted data.

Industry-specific solutions

To speed up deployment, Reltio offers prebuilt “velocity packs” that include data models, rules, matching logic and integrations tailored to sectors such as life sciences, healthcare and financial services.

SAP plans to integrate these capabilities into SAP BDC, allowing customers to access Reltio as part of a broader SAP solution or as a standalone product.

This flexible commercial model ensures that enterprises can adopt the technology without disrupting existing operations.

By combining SAP’s AI capabilities with Reltio’s data management tools, businesses will gain access to high-quality, context-rich data that can drive both traditional analytics workloads and AI agent activities.

The acquisition positions SAP to further establish itself as a leader in enterprise AI and data intelligence.
