Embedding JAX AI into Microsoft 365 Copilot will provide real-time data to cut manual workflows for small businesses, says Xero’s Diya Jolly

Small business software provider Xero has introduced a direct link with Microsoft 365 to inject live financial data into everyday office applications.

The partnership inserts the proprietary AI financial superagent from Xero, named JAX, directly inside Microsoft 365 Copilot to automate workflows for accountants and small firms.

Users can converse with the AI tool to retrieve bespoke financial insights instantly as they work.

Strategically, the system addresses a major productivity drain in corporate finance caused by jumping between disconnected software platforms.

By placing live accounts inside Excel, Word and PowerPoint, the setup aims to eliminate data fragmentation risks and stop manual data entry.

Excel integration eradicates manual data exports

Accounting professionals and corporate finance teams will notice the most immediate operational changes within their spreadsheets.

The new system populates Excel spreadsheets automatically with structured tables using live software information.

This operational update removes the traditional, frustrating need for manual CSV exports and repetitive data cleaning.

Professionals can easily pull multi-quarter profit and loss statements or list overdue accounts with exact due dates into their active spreadsheets.

Diya Jolly, Chief Product and Technology Officer at Xero, says: “One of the pain points we hear from small business owners and accountants is that their financial data lives in one place while much of their work happens somewhere else.

“Xero’s integration with Microsoft 365 changes the canvas for how businesses work across the tools they use every day.

“By bringing financial intelligence from JAX, our AI finance partner, to our customers where and when they need it, they’re able to have key financial context grounded in real-time data at their fingertips to fuel decision-making.”

Commercial reporting automated via PowerPoint and Word

Automated visualisation forms the primary focus of the reporting side of this integration.

The system automatically generates PowerPoint slides complete with native charts, revenue trends and clear metrics like top customer rankings.

In Word, the application creates automated narrative paragraphs and pre-formatted report segments.

This enables users to insert live accounts receivable summaries directly into loan applications and board packs without manual copying.

Furthermore, the Copilot Chat feature uses JAX to deliver text summaries and quick action confirmations.

Finance specialists can check outstanding debts and use direct links to return to Xero to issue payment reminders.

Bryan Allen, Director of Product Marketing, Microsoft 365 Copilot at Microsoft, says: “With financial intelligence from Xero accessible in Microsoft 365, Xero customers will have real-time, data-backed insights right in the apps they already use every day.

“In today’s dynamic business environment, we look forward to seeing this integration deliver new levels of operational efficiency for small businesses and accountants around the world.”

Data governance and security protect proprietary models

Data privacy remains the main obstacle for any corporate AI deployment, which corporate risk officers must navigate.

Xero stresses that data responsibility forms the bedrock of this partnership, matching its internal Accountable Intelligence principles.

All shared financial data remains locked to the active session of the user to protect privacy.

Crucially for corporate compliance, proprietary company data is never used to train the Copilot AI models of Microsoft.

The software platform intends to expand this integration to wider Microsoft tools, including Outlook and Teams.

Diya notes: “Delivering Xero’s real-time financial data and context through Microsoft 365, as well as through our recently announced Claude integration, helps remove operational friction and streamlines how businesses work.

“With the ability to leverage Xero at every point in their workflows, we can help reduce room for error, save small businesses and accountants time and enable customers to spend less time on admin and more time growing.”
