Bloomberg is optimising investment process with agentic AI, bridging the gap between global market data and a firm’s institutional knowledge

With financial market decisions capable of moving billions in seconds, there is zero tolerance for any errors. Bloomberg’s latest update, announced at its AI in Finance Summit, optimises the investment process with the help of agentic AI.

The development is an evolution of Bloomberg’s existing conversational AI interface ASKB that redefines how financial professionals discover, analyse and act on information using the Bloomberg Terminal.

Used by decision-makers for more than four decades, Terminal provides real-time access to news, data, insights and trading tools that help customers turn knowledge into investment decisions.

ASKB will transition from a simple search/discovery tool into an integrated engine for “institutional intelligence”, providing investors with the information they need to accelerate their work through a coordinated network of Bloomberg’s AI agents.

Wayne Barlow, Global Head of Terminal Products, says: “We are providing investors with an agentic AI engine that synthesises a comprehensive web of interconnected market data with a firm’s unique proprietary knowledge so they can hone their unique, alpha-generating perspectives.”

Bridging the gap

The roadmap aims to close the circuit between Bloomberg’s multi-decade map of complex market relationships and interconnected data.

Clients will be allowed to apply Bloomberg’s AI agents directly within the financial analysis and portfolio management tools they already use on the Bloomberg Terminal.

By automating everyday workflows, ASKB will sync external market trends with clients’ internal data to uncover deeper insights, making it a frictionless experience.

Some strategic integrations across Bloomberg Terminal include:

  • ASKB and Portfolio & Risk Analytics {PORT <GO>}: Investors can now query personal and firm-wide security lists using ASKB to analyse news and data. This will allow users to gain deeper insight into portfolios, analyse their positions and active bets, identify drivers of performance and pinpoint potential sources of risk more efficiently.
  • ASKB and Research Management Solutions (RMS Enterprise): Research teams using RMS Enterprise will not only be able to upload their research notes but also create research content. They can also analyse their team’s research content and proprietary financial models, and refine their investment thesis with agentic AI assistance through the full investment research lifecycle.
  • ASKB and Alternative Data: Investors can utilise Data Entitlements in {ALTD <GO>} for near real-time insights alongside consensus estimates for their company research and financial forecasting. Through simple queries, ASKB will enable users to synthesise signals, such as credit card transaction data from Bloomberg Second Measure, to now cast company KPIs with greater precision.
  • ASKB and Expert Intelligence: Users can harness Bloomberg’s agentic AI to surface high-value expert insights from providers like Third Bridge, a leading global investment firm with a library of more than 100,000 interview transcripts covering thousands of public and private companies globally.
  • ASKB Workflows: The feature will be enhanced so that users can automate recurring multi-step research tasks, such as Customised Morning Briefs, to be scheduled for a certain time or based on certain market triggers. The ASKB Workflows and the BQL formulas underlying those outputs can also be shared with teammates to maximise efficiency for Terminal users across their firm.

Bloomberg subject-matter experts will also begin suggesting market-related questions directly within supported Terminal functions, allowing users to launch deep-dive research explorations.

This will derive greater value from Bloomberg Anywhere (BBA) subscriptions and help the system in creating a faster and more intuitive experience for professionals.

Purpose-built intelligence

ASKB will now support various asset classes and use cases across the investment process. Its AI agents are drawing from decades of curated data, including thousands of market sources and hundreds of millions of company documents.

This includes Bloomberg News, which publishes more than 5,000 daily stories, alongside research from 1,200 sell-side providers. It also utilises deep linkages between datasets that have been curated over decades, including company documents like presentations and filings.

Additionally, users can collaborate by asking follow-up questions to analysts via the Instant Bloomberg (IB) chat function. Built on long-standing AI leadership, ASKB remains grounded in responsible principles with transparent attribution to original sources.

Enabled users can also access the interface on the Bloomberg Terminal, mobile devices and Apple Vision Pro.

Through these integrations aided by agentic AI, Bloomberg aims to bring together the “inside” world of a firm’s own proprietary information and the “outside” world of public market data in the financial market.
