In a new set of updates, Google is introducing an intelligent, AI-powered search box using advanced models and agents to transform queries

Google is intent on answering all our questions by transforming its iconic search engine into an intelligent agent that thinks outside the lines, marking its biggest upgrade in more than 25 years.

The new development is bringing advanced model capabilities with new AI features which enable users to use agents just by asking a question.

The AI Mode, launched in May 2025, surpassed one billion monthly users, just 12 months after its debut, with queries more than doubling every quarter since launch.

As people realise just how much more the platform can do for them, they are searching more than ever before, which pushed queries to an all-time high last quarter.

Gemini 3.5 Flash upgrades global search capabilities

Since curiosity cannot always be captured in keywords, Google is introducing the biggest upgrade to its search box in more than 25 years.

The search platform will be upgraded with Gemini 3.5 Flash, which is its newest model delivering sustained performance for agents and coding.

This system is now the default model in AI Mode for everyone globally, which ensures faster and more accurate responses.

The intuitive tool dynamically expands on screen, giving users the perfect space to describe exactly what they need.

Designed to anticipate user intent, it also helps people formulate questions with suggestions that go beyond standard autocomplete.

Users can search across modalities, using text, images, files, videos or Chrome tabs as inputs.

The intelligent search box has been rolled out in all countries and languages where AI Mode is available.

Digital assistants manage automated tasks

The business is making it simpler to continue conversations within the platform, allowing users to ask follow-up questions right from an AI Overview

This functions as a conversational back and forth where context stays with the user, making supporting articles even more relevant. The seamless experience is live across desktop and mobile devices worldwide.

The industry is entering the era of search agents, where users can create, customise and manage multiple assistants for many tasks.

In this background, Google is starting with information agents, which operate in the background 24 hours a day to find specific details.

With information agents, users can stay updated on whatever matters most to them by monitoring blogs, news sites and social posts.

The agent will look across everything on the web alongside fresh data, such as real-time information on finance, shopping and sports. It then sends an intelligent, synthesised update with the ability to take immediate action.

Information agents will launch first for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers this summer.

Agentic booking automates local service reservations

Google is also expanding its agentic booking capabilities to a wide range of new tasks, including local experiences and services.

Users can share specific criteria, such as finding a private karaoke room for six people on a Friday night that serves food late.

The platform then brings together the latest pricing and availability with direct links to finish booking through the chosen provider.

For select categories like home repair, beauty or pet care, users can ask the platform to call businesses on their behalf. These capabilities will be rolled out to everyone in the US this summer.

The power of Google Antigravity and the agentic coding capabilities of Gemini 3.5 Flash are also coming right into the Search platform. The system can build the ideal response in the correct format for any question completely on the fly.

This allows users to get custom generative UI, including visual tools and simulations, tailored precisely to their needs.

Custom dashboards track ongoing user projects

When users have ongoing tasks like planning a wedding or managing a home move, the platform can go a step further.

It builds custom dashboards or trackers that people can come back to, which function like mini apps for specific tasks.

If a user wants to establish a new health routine, they can ask the system to build a custom fitness tracker. The platform codes it automatically, tapping into fresh, real-time sources including reviews, live maps and local weather data.

Users will be able to build these custom experiences with Antigravity in the coming months. This feature will start first for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the US.

Finally, the business is expanding Personal Intelligence in AI Mode to more people in nearly 200 countries and territories across 98 languages, with no subscription required.

Users can securely connect apps like Gmail and Google Photos, and soon Google Calendar, to help the system understand personal context.
