Inside Coupa's Acquisition of AI-First IDP Leader Rossum

Coupa has acquired Rossum in a transaction revealed at Coupa Inspire 2026.
Coupa is a recognised leader in autonomous spend management, while Rossum specialises in intelligent document processing (IDP) technology. The two companies have worked together since 2024, with the acquisition set to extend IDP capabilities across Coupa's product portfolio.
Processing complex invoices
Rossum's technology uses a transactional large language model (T-LLM) for document processing. According to Coupa, customers already use Rossum's embedded capabilities within the Coupa platform for accounts payable (AP) functions.
The acquisition will enable customers to apply Rossum's IDP technology across direct and indirect spend scenarios. Coupa has indicated this might result in faster processing and cost savings in complex invoicing workflows.
The combined platform looks set to give users more control over data in their source-to-pay operations. Rossum's T-LLM model was trained on tens of millions of documents, according to the company.
The model continues to learn from each customer's document set, which could accelerate implementation timelines. This approach moves beyond optical character recognition (OCR) technology.
"Rossum changes the game entirely," says Leagh Turner, CEO at Coupa. "As a strong partner since 2024, we know there is incredible value in bringing the two companies together across the entire source-to-pay function.
"The combined value of Coupa and Rossum has been proven in AP and invoicing, and we see massive future value in applying Rossum’s T-LLM and AI-first technology across the Coupa platform.
"We’ve been able to deliver over US$300bn in customer savings over the past 20 years. With Rossum, we believe we can help them save the next US$300bn in five with a system of decision and intelligence that is unrivalled."
Combining data and intelligence
Rossum's architecture was purpose-built for transactional intelligence. The proprietary domain-specific model will work alongside Coupa's Navi agentic fleet to process documents across the source-to-pay function.
"Joining Coupa is the natural evolution of a years-long partnership built on a shared AI-first culture," adds Tomáš Gogár, Co-Founder and CEO at Rossum.
"By combining our proprietary T-LLM transactional intelligence with Coupa’s massive US$10tn data set, we are well positioned to create immediate customer value and fundamentally change how the world buys and sells.
"We’re excited to join Coupa, especially at this critical acceleration of how businesses use and adopt AI."
Kirkland & Ellis served as counsel to Coupa for the transaction. Guggenheim Securities served as exclusive financial advisor to Rossum, while Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe served as legal advisor.
Attendees at Coupa Inspire 2026 can learn about the combined capabilities in the Expo Hall and other sessions.
Coupa will host a webinar on 9 June to discuss how the acquisition could affect source-to-pay functions. Click here to register.
