Driven by a desire to revolutionise procurement, Aatish Dedhia is at the forefront of Zycus, pushing the company’s ambition to drive success

As the founder and CEO of Zycus, Aatish Dedhia has been at the forefront of procurement technology innovation for over two decades. His journey began in 2001 when, drawing from his experience at Intel, he identified an opportunity to revolutionise procurement through technology. "During my time at Intel, I got deep insights into the limitations of traditional procurement processes and what great could look like," Dedhia says.

Under Dedhia's leadership, Zycus has evolved from a start-up into a leading procurement technology provider, distinguished by its commitment to organic growth and customer-centric innovation. The company's independence from external investors has enabled it to maintain a laser focus on customer success and technological advancement, particularly in artificial intelligence.

Dedhia's vision for AI in procurement extends far beyond conventional automation. Since 2018, Zycus has been developing its Merlin AI offering and now the company is pushing boundaries with its Merlin Agentic Platform. "Imagine agents that not only process transactions but also predict supplier risks, execute negotiations and guide sustainable choices — all autonomously  with minimal human intervention but under human control," he explains.

This commitment to innovation is deeply embedded in Zycus's corporate culture, where nearly half of the company's resources are dedicated to R&D. An early lead with Merlin allowed them to build a large talent pool of AI professionals, representing the industry's largest investment in AI as a percentage of their workforce.

"Innovation alongside Agility and Customer Centricity are our 3 values at Zycus," states Dedhia. The company's "fail fast, learn faster" ethos, coupled with substantial investments in emerging technologies like  Agentic AI and sustainability-focused tools, demonstrates his forward-thinking leadership approach.

One of Dedhia's most significant initiatives is the AI Council, a collaborative platform that brings together CPOs and industry leaders representing over US$1tn in revenues. This forum not only keeps Zycus aligned with industry needs but also ensures its innovations address real-world challenges. The company's latest venture into sustainability through its Lythouse ESG management solution reflects Dedhia's understanding of procurement's evolving role in addressing global challenges.

His leadership philosophy was particularly tested during the 2008 financial crisis. Rather than retreating, Dedhia led Zycus to double down on customer engagement and product innovation. "This period taught me the importance of staying focused on long-term goals, even during short-term disruptions," he recalls, highlighting the resilience that has become a hallmark of his leadership style.

What sets Dedhia apart as a leader is his focus on human impact alongside technological advancement. "Beyond business success and being recognised as an innovation leader is the realisation that our technology is changing lives," he shares. He takes particular pride in how Zycus' solutions enable procurement professionals to work more strategically whilst achieving better work-life balance.

Looking ahead, Dedhia maintains a comprehensive approach to staying informed about industry trends, combining customer feedback, analyst engagement and dedicated R&D efforts. His advice to aspiring entrepreneurs in the procurement technology space reflects his long-term perspective: "Focus on solving real customer problems. Understand the nuances of the domain— technology alone isn't enough... Finally, it is a long-term game. Don't startup for quick gains."

Through his leadership, Dedhia has positioned Zycus at the intersection of procurement and technological innovation, while maintaining a clear focus on delivering tangible value to customers. His vision of AI-driven procurement transformation, combined with a deep commitment to customer success, continues to shape the future of procurement technology.

As Zycus and Aatish look to be at the forefront of procurement innovation, the company will continue to look at ways to harness AI. Zycus’ focus is on making processes autonomous with its Merlin Agentic Platform.

“At the heart of our source-to-pay solution is the Merlin Agentic Platform, which orchestrates intelligent AI agents to deliver simplified, efficient and compliant processes. .

“We say time is money, let's save both for our customers.”
