NTT & Schneider Electric Partner to Transform AI at the Edge

NTT Data and Schneider Electric announce a partnership that aims to see them drive AI innovation at the edge, integrating 5G, IoT and modular data centres

A partnership between NTT Data and Schneider Electric aims to co-innovate a solution that combines Edge, Private 5G, the Internet of Things (IoT) and modular data centres to better enable connectivity anywhere.

Modular data centres are becoming an increasing trend, given that the data centre industry continues to shift further towards AI and cloud-native services. This type of data centre is valuable because it can help maximise energy efficiency, enable rapid deployment and increase computing density.

Both companies are aiming to better support the demand of AI applications at the edge, allowing organisations to better upgrade their existing data centre infrastructure.

Working to expand Gen AI applications

Schneider Electric in particular has been keen to continue optimising AI within data centres, in order to get customers better connected. The joint offering introduces a unique solution to support the compute demands of gen AI applications that are deployed at the edge. It will combine NTT Data’s Edge as a Service, which includes fully managed Edge to Cloud, Private 5G and IoT capabilities, with Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure.

EcoStruxure is a modular data centre that fuses OT solutions with the latest IT technologies, seeking to maximise energy efficiency and further meet the demands of compute-intensive tasks such as machine vision, predictive maintenance and other AI inferencing applications at the edge.

“We've listened to our customers and know that processing vast amounts of data generated by edge devices is where the future of digital transformation lies. That's why we're excited to announce that we have the solution to meet these obstacles and are ready to lead the way towards a more connected and efficient digital world,” says Shahid Ahmed, EVP New Ventures, and Innovation at NTT Ltd.

“We are thrilled at the prospect of what our continued collaboration with Schneider Electric means for the industrial and other sectors,” he adds.

With this new solution, customers of both organisations can now implement a complete solution, which includes edge data centres tailored for digital transformation in more remote locations.

The companies will also be addressing joint customer requirements to meet growing demand from organisations who are looking to leverage edge compute to support automation and enable data-driven decision making. According to NTT DATA’s Edge Advantage report, nearly 70% of enterprises are accelerating edge adoption to solve critical business challenges.

Leveraging IoT and 5G to gain valuable AI insights

NTT Data and Schneider Electric originally co-invested to test the power of Private 5G networks, working to leverage Private 5G with IoT connectivity, edge analytics and predictive analytics to drive greater energy efficiency and achieve further sustainability goals.

In order to profit from AI insights, both companies suggest that businesses must now invest in digital resources at the edge.

“After leveraging NTT DATA’s expertise in Private 5G connectivity and then maximising synergies with our EcoStruxure architecture in our facilities, it’s time to expand our collaboration and bring a complete solution to industrial customers,” says Rob McKernan, President, Cloud & Service Provider Segment at Schneider Electric.

“Together, we aim to assist global clients in adopting connected devices, specialised industrial solutions and the right edge computing infrastructure with modular data centres to gain valuable data insights, particularly in the context of IoT and emerging AI requirements.”

Innovations on Display at Mobile World Congress

NTT DATA and Schneider Electric will discuss their co-innovation partnership at MWC Barcelona 2024 - to demonstrate how edge and private 5G are transforming industries.

They will be in Hall 4 – Stand 4A20 on February 26th between 1300 – 1400 (CEST) at the NTT DATA booth.
