Kaspersky joins the European Commission's AI Pact, committing to responsible AI governance, risk mapping and literacy promotion

The integration of AI into enterprise operations has created an urgent need for regulatory frameworks that balance innovation with security.

As AI systems become central to business operations, from customer service to cybersecurity, organisations face increasing pressure to ensure responsible deployment and risk management.

This challenge is particularly acute in cybersecurity, where AI technologies now form the backbone of threat detection and response systems.

The EU has moved to address these concerns through the AI Act, establishing the first comprehensive legal framework for artificial intelligence deployment.

The legislation arrives as organisations worldwide grapple with questions of AI governance, ethics, and security.

Industry leaders must now adapt their operations to meet new regulatory requirements while maintaining technological advancement.

In this light, Kaspersky, the global cybersecurity provider, has signed the European Commission's AI Pact.

The agreement prepares organisations for the EU AI Act, which becomes enforceable in 2026 and establishes the first comprehensive legal framework for AI deployment.

The commitment requires signatories to implement governance strategies for AI systems, which use computer algorithms to perform tasks traditionally requiring human intelligence.

Core EU AI act implementation requirements

Organisations joining the pact commit to three fundamental obligations.

First, they must adopt AI governance strategies to promote technology adoption while ensuring future compliance.

Second, they must map AI systems in areas considered high-risk under the Act.

Third, they must enhance AI literacy among staff and contractors who interact with AI systems.

The framework accounts for technical knowledge, experience and training requirements specific to each AI system's operational context and this approach aims to create comprehensive understanding across all levels of AI implementation.

Kaspersky advances AI governance framework development

The cybersecurity firm commits to profile potential risks to individuals affected by AI systems and maintain transparency about AI deployment in workplaces and this builds on Kaspersky's two decades of AI implementation in threat detection systems.

"As we witness the rapid deployment of AI technologies, it's crucial to ensure that the drive for innovation is balanced with proper risk management," says Eugene Kaspersky, Founder and CEO of Kaspersky.

Eugene also emphasises the company's role in advancing AI literacy and risk awareness.

European commission AI pact sets industry standards

The agreement establishes requirements for organisations to inform individuals about direct interactions with AI systems and this aligns with broader EU objectives to ensure AI technologies comply with safety and ethical principles.

Furthermore, the AI Act, enacted in 2024, represents the EU's response to growing concerns about AI deployment and this legislation aims to foster trustworthy AI development while addressing associated risks across European markets and beyond.

Security research and development initiatives

Kaspersky's AI Technology Research Centre has additionally developed guidelines for secure AI system deployment, presented at the 2024 UN Internet Governance Forum.

These recommendations address implementation challenges for organisations adopting AI technologies.

Key facts:
  • Kaspersky signed the European Commission's AI Pact on 13 January 2025
  • The AI Pact aims to prepare organisations for the implementation of the EU AI Act
  • The EU AI Act, enacted in 2024, will become fully applicable in mid-2026

The guidelines provide practitioners with specific recommendations for secure AI deployment, drawing from the company's experience in automated threat detection and privacy protection technologies.

Industry leadership in AI security standards

The company's participation in the AI Pact additionally follows its development of ethical principles for AI use in cybersecurity.

This framework aims to establish industry standards for responsible AI deployment.

Kaspersky's implementation of AI technologies spans twenty years, focusing on automated threat detection and privacy protection for customers and the company maintains research operations to address emerging risks in AI system deployment.

Commitment to ethical AI development

The company has formulated principles for ethical AI use in cybersecurity, inviting other providers to adopt similar standards.

This initiative reflects growing industry recognition of the need for coordinated approaches to AI security.

"Having been an advocate for AI literacy and the sharing of knowledge about AI-related risks and threats for years, we're happy to join the ranks of organisations working to help companies responsibly and securely benefit from AI technologies," says Eugene.

"We'll be working to further advance transparent and ethical AI practices and contribute to building confidence in this technology."
