ThinQ ON: LG's AI Hub Will Make Smart Home Devices Smarter
LG Electronics is making a push to make smart objects even smarter with the announcement of its ThinQ ON AI home hub.
“An AI voice assistant and hub that serves as the centre of the smart home, ThinQ ON brings us significantly closer to realising our vision of the Zero Labor Home,” says Lyu Jae-cheol, President of LG Electronics Home Appliance & Air Solution Company.
Due to debut at IFA 2024 in Berlin, this device promises to redefine interactions with living spaces and give this extra layer of intelligence and usher in LG’s "Zero Labour Home" vision.
A central hub for AI personalisation
At the heart of LG's latest innovation lies the ThinQ ON's ability to seamlessly connect with a vast array of appliances and Internet of Things (IoT) devices.
This central hub serves as the cornerstone of a comprehensive smart home ecosystem, where LG's cutting-edge appliances and AI work together to deliver more personalised results and a more intelligent smart home.
For instance, using such AI hubs to control the IoT devices could learn from user habits like what time they go to bed and switch lights off accordingly.
This is enabled by what LG dubs Affectionate Intelligence. This innovative AI system continuously learns from individual usage patterns and broader trends, allowing it to tailor daily experiences to each user's specific preferences and needs.
“LG aims to make the ‘AI Home Lifestyle’ accessible to everyone, and will continue to deliver customised comfort, care and convenience through its Affectionate Intelligence solutions,” says Lyu Jae-cheol.
The ThinQ ON's AI can even understand the context of conversations and determine user preferences for each connected appliance, IoT device, and service. This deep level of understanding allows the system to provide a new level of "care" to the home environment.
Made possible through LG's high-performance AI chipset, it has been engineered with future scalability in mind, and so can adapt as smart homes connect to more and more devices.
A gateway to intelligent IoT
By serving as a central hub for a wide range of IoT devices, it paves the way for a truly intelligent and interconnected home environment.
With Matter certification and support for various network connectivity options, including Wi-Fi and Thread, the ThinQ ON ensures hassle-free setup with its devices and other brands, all from a single, centralised platform.
This interoperability is further exemplified by LG's recent acquisition of smart home platform company Athom, which boasts compatibility with over 50,000 devices.
As these diverse IoT devices come under the control of the ThinQ ON AI Home Hub, they collectively become more intelligent. The hub's ability to learn from usage patterns and trends across multiple devices allows for more sophisticated automation and predictive behaviours.
This level of integration and intelligence brings us closer to the concept of a truly smart home – one that anticipates needs, adapts to changing conditions, and provides a seamless, effortless living experience.
