Pegasus is positioning itself as a global innovator in the aviation industry
Pegasus Airlines has developed its in-house capabilities via its Silicon Valley Innovation Lab to offer multilingual AI announcements to its passengers

In a novel application of AI that underscores its commitment to technological advancement, Pegasus Airlines has unveiled passengers will get in-flight announcements from an AI system instead of the pilot.

From October, this multilingual project will allow passengers on flights to Spanish, Arabic, and Russian-speaking countries to hear announcements in their respective local languages, following the standard English version.

This cutting-edge feature made its debut on the inaugural Seville route in September, where travellers were welcomed in Spanish before receiving flight information.

Pegasus’ pursuit of digital transformation

This multilingual project represents a significant leap forward in enhancing the travel experience for Pegasus' diverse customer base, effectively bridging language barriers and creating a more inclusive atmosphere onboard.

The solution, which harnesses AI for voice cloning and multi-language announcement, clones the voices of male and female Pegasus captains to create dynamic multilingual announcements tailored to each flight.

Sharing details such as flight information, weather, destination, the captain's name, and flight duration, this is all done via AI before take-off.

What sets this development apart, however, is not just its technological sophistication, but the fact that it has been developed in-house by Pegasus Airlines' own innovation team.

Unlike many companies in the aviation industry that often rely on external vendors for technological solutions, Pegasus Airlines has chosen to keep innovation at the heart of its operations.

This approach became even more pronounced with the establishment of its Technology Innovation Lab in Silicon Valley, US, announced in 2023.

"Our investments in technology stand out as one of the key elements that set us apart. Since launching our digital transformation in 2018, we have been making significant investments,” said Güliz Öztürk, CEO of Pegasus Airlines on the innovation lab. “In line with our vision to become 'Your Digital Airline', we launch many initiatives to make the travel experience of our guests and the work experience for our employees easier, faster, and more efficient."

The rapid progression from announcing the innovation lab to implementing the AI-powered multilingual announcements in such a short space of time shows not only the airline's technological capabilities but also its agility and commitment to innovation.

The multilingual announcement system is just one facet of Pegasus Airlines' broader digital transformation strategy. Launched in 2018 under the motto "Your Digital Airline", this comprehensive programme encompasses various initiatives aimed at enhancing both customer experience and operational efficiency.

"At Pegasus, we are determined to become one of the world's most technologically advanced airlines,” Barış Fındık, Chief Information Officer at Pegasus Airlines said on their technological ambition. “In pursuit of this, we are taking significant strides to evaluate collaboration opportunities with start-ups, universities, and other players in the field of technology and aviation."

Pioneering AI in aviation

By keeping innovation in-house and establishing a dedicated lab in Silicon Valley, Pegasus is positioning itself as a global innovator in the aviation industry

With a focus on digital transformation and all that entails - AI, mobile capabilities, self-service, and other cutting-edge technologies - demonstrates its forward-thinking approach and its commitment to staying ahead of the curve.

The rapid development and deployment of the AI-powered multilingual announcement system is testament to that, and is likely just the beginning of a series of technological advancements that will reshape the passenger experience and streamline airline operations.

As the industry watches closely, it's evident that Pegasus Airlines' commitment to in-house innovation is setting a new standard for how airlines can approach technological advancement for customer experience in the digital age.
