Microsoft: The Gen AI Roadmap for Enterprise Success

With organisations shifting from experimental pilots to fully integrated business systems across the world, industry research indicates that AI implementation has grown by 47% since 2023.
Gen AI applications are leading this expansion, even though many companies are struggling to develop coherent strategies for its deployment and measurable returns.
The World Economic Forum reports that while 78% of large enterprises have initiated AI projects, only 31% report significant business impact from these investments.
On top of this, regulatory frameworks continue to evolve across regions, with the EU's AI Act now fully implemented and similar legislation advancing in North America and Asia-Pacific markets.
Addressing these challenges, Microsoft offers a new AI Decision Brief for this year, compiled by Chief AI Officers and Microsoft executives, provides strategic direction for organisations seeking to implement Gen AI solutions.
The Brief aims to facilitate AI advancement and consistent value creation regardless of industry sector, offering “guidance and strategic perspectives for leaders” on the current state of Gen AI in business environments.
Microsoft’s five values to optimise Gen AI
Microsoft’s report emphasises that successful Gen AI deployment begins with a clearly articulated strategy that aligns with broader business objectives.
This approach requires securing executive leadership support and identifying specific business challenges where AI can deliver measurable return on investment.
The company has outlined five value drivers for advancing Gen AI implementation at scale:
- Define your AI strategy and direction
- Target a top business challenge or opportunity
- Establish AI readiness and governance
- Deploy AI to scale
- Expand AI transformation
“Microsoft is committed to sharing our learning in the age of Gen AI to further our mission of empowering every person and every organisation on the planet to do more,” the report states.
Furthermore, it acknowledges the evolving nature of AI implementation: “As the real-world impacts of the AI platform shift take shape, organisations of all kinds will need to learn, adapt and refine their approaches. Collaboration, partnership and shared learning will be vital for everyone.”
The impact of Microsoft 365 Copilot across multiple industries
Microsoft 365 Copilot, a Gen AI-powered assistant automates tasks, generates content and enhances productivity by leveraging user data securely, accelerating operational efficiency.
Now, it is accelerating companies across multiple industries.
Dow
Dow has also implemented Microsoft 365 Copilot – the AI assistant that integrates with Microsoft's productivity applications – to transform productivity and supply chain management, achieving cost reductions in shipping operations.
Then, within twelve months of deployment, Dow reports streamlined processes and substantial time savings for employees.
BCI
The British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI), an investment management firm, has deployed Microsoft 365 Copilot to enhance workforce productivity while maintaining regulatory compliance.
BCI has additionally integrated Copilot alongside Azure OpenAI Service to automate repetitive tasks, allowing staff to concentrate on strategic initiatives.
CTC
Meanwhile, Canadian Tire Corporation (CTC), a retail company, utilises Azure AI services to improve both employee productivity and customer experiences through assistants such as chatbots – conversational AI programs that interact with users.
As a result, it developed AI shopping assistants, including one named CeeTee, leveraging Azure OpenAI Service and Data Lake Storage to optimise product offerings and operational processes.
Teladoc
Teladoc, a virtual healthcare provider, employs Microsoft Copilot to enhance operations, increase productivity and improve client interactions.
“Copilot saves us thousands of hours as an enterprise just through eliminating daily processes – it's driving operational efficiency across Teladoc like a personal assistant that never sleeps,” says Eddie Swafford, VP of Operations at Teladoc Health.
He adds: “I can just simply focus and listen during meetings. That makes you a better leader and ultimately frees you up to be more effective.”
Teladoc reports that Copilot facilitates faster onboarding for new employees and works with Microsoft Power Automate and Power BI – data analysis and workflow automation tools – to categorise and route client issues, reducing resolution times.
Emily Grimm, Supply Chain Manager at Teladoc Health, notes: “Using Copilot in Power Automate and Power BI has helped us save a lot of time by getting newer employees started quickly and answering their questions faster.
“With Copilot, we don't have to train everyone on the best way to use Power Automate and we're probably getting flows set up and running about 20% more quickly.”
