Lenovo and Cisco have announced a global partnership to develop solutions that aid and accelerate AI digital transformations for businesses worldwide

Two titans of tech, Lenovo and Cisco have announced a strategic global partnership to develop solutions that aid and accelerate digital transformations for businesses worldwide, combining their formidable expertise and resources.

The agreement will see them jointly develop integrated infrastructure and networking solutions that combine their respective strengths - from Lenovo's end-to-end AI infrastructure portfolio to Cisco's acclaimed networking ecosystem.

These pre-integrated offerings are designed to simplify deployment and operations for businesses looking to accelerate innovation and time-to-value across AI, networking, edge computing and other transformational technologies.

By providing optimised, turnkey, and validated solutions from a single vendor source, Lenovo and Cisco aim to help customers worldwide streamline their digital transformation journeys from edge to cloud seamlessly and efficiently.

In practicality, this strategic partnership between Lenovo and Cisco aims to provide businesses with pre-integrated and optimised solutions that simplify the deployment and management that advanced technologies increasingly require for modern digital initiatives.

Kirk Skaugen, Executive Vice President at Lenovo explained: "This new partnership is a testament to our commitment to delivering purpose-built, industry-leading solutions, all designed to simplify the path to AI innovation and digital transformation."

Roadblocks to implementing AI

The partnership comes at a crucial time when many businesses are grappling with the complexities of actualising their digital transformation ambitions, driven by the explosion of AI.

Digital transformation can refer to anything from IT modernisation to digital optimisation to the invention of new digital business models. Organisations choose to implement digital transformations for a variety of reasons, often motivated by the desire to remain competitive and relevant in a rapidly evolving digital world.

While the potential benefits of technologies like AI, automation, edge computing and the cloud are immense, businesses across industries consistently face hurdles in implementation.

A Deltek report finds businesses believe digital transformation is key to realising growth ambitions, with 67% stating they will not lose market share if they make significant progress in this area.

However, a staggering 70% of digital transformations fail according to a McKinsey report.

One of the biggest obstacles is the sheer complexity involved in integrating disparate systems, data sources and infrastructure components into a cohesive digital fabric.

In fact, Lenovo's recent third annual global CIO report showed how despite AI being the CIO’s top priority, their ambitions are threatened by speed, security, and other organisational functions lagging in AI readiness.

Scaling AI applications from pilot to production is another major stumbling block. Cybersecurity and data privacy risks have also given corporate leaders pause. As more data flows across complex hybrid environments spanning the cloud and edge, protecting sensitive information becomes exponentially harder.

Then there are the skills gaps and cultural change management hurdles to contend with too.

An integrated approach

Lenovo and Cisco believe by offering a single vendor solution to this issue, businesses can find simpler paths to navigate their AI and digital journeys effectively.

As Jonathan Davidson, Executive Vice President at Cisco Networking, stated: "The integrated solutions from Lenovo and Cisco will streamline operational deployment and significantly enhance business outcomes for our shared customers."

By delivering pre-engineered, validated and optimised systems, the partnership aims to reduce the risks, costs and time-to-value hurdles that have historically bogged down transformational IT initiatives.
