“It’s clear that AI and data are not just tools - they are foundations of our future.”

Mastercard has appointed Janet George as its Executive Vice President of AI.

Using her expertise from Intel and Oracle, she will drive secure, personalised payment solutions and oversee the company’s AI Center of Excellence, enhancing data science efforts to advance Mastercard’s global digital economy mission.

Under Janet, Mastercard’s AI strategy will focus on three key areas: 1. Secure Personalisation: leveraging Gen AI for fraud prevention (e.g., Decision Intelligence Pro) and hyper-personalised merchant experiences.

2. Infrastructure Modernisation: building scalable tooling to unify data pipelines that are critical for handling unstructured data and improving AI model accuracy.

3. Ethical Governance: embedding responsible AI frameworks to ensure compliance and consumer trust, aligning with Mastercard’s existing commitments to cybersecurity and digital inclusion.

This means that Janet’s primary role involves enhancing AI-driven innovations to protect over 159 billion annual transactions while improving fraud detection and customer experiences.

She will further prioritise developing AI tools and infrastructure to empower Mastercard’s global data science teams, ensuring scalable and ethical AI deployment across payment systems.

Greg Ulrich, Mastercard’s Chief AI and Data Officer, says: “Janet’s leadership and expertise, combined with her commitment to innovation, trust and responsibility, position her well in this exciting new role.”

Janet adds: “I look forward to collaborating with this talented team to push the boundaries of what's possible and to contribute to Mastercard's mission of connecting and powering the digital economy.”
