Groq’s European AI Data Centre Expansion with Equinix

The new Groq data centre in collaboration with Equinix is situated in Helsinki, Finland, is the company’s next evolution in its strategy to amplify its AI network infrastructure across Europe.
As part of its ambition to widen its data centre network globally, Groq is prioritising low-cost scalability meant to accommodate the dynamic needs of AI inference.
This initiative offers customers the speed and capacity necessary to remain competitive in a market where quick and efficient technological adaptation is more crucial than ever.
The data centre aims to bring sophisticated AI inference capabilities closer to consumers throughout Europe, facilitating lower latency and faster response outcomes while ensuring robust data governance.
“As demand for AI inference continues at an ever-increasing pace, we know that those building fast need more – more capacity, more efficiency and with a cost that scales,” says Jonathan Ross, CEO and Founder of Groq.
How Groq is targeting AI workloads across europe
This partnership is an extension of the existing collaboration between the two organisations, which previously established a prominent site in Dallas, USA.
Now, the Helsinki data centre embodies the quality, security and foresight that Equinix consistently delivers as a leading data centre developer.

Additionally, Equinix Fabric users will gain enhanced capacity for deploying inference operations to GroqCloud, broadening access to inference facilities in a cost-effective manner.
This accessibility through Equinix Fabric’s diverse infrastructure options is opening avenues for new customers across the US and EMEA regions.
“There is no doubt AI is front of mind for businesses across Europe and the Nordics is a great place to host AI infrastructure,” explains Regina Donato Dahlström, Managing Director for the Nordics at Equinix.
“With its sustainable energy policies, free cooling and reliable power grid, Finland is a standout choice for hosting this new capacity.”
“Combining Groq’s cutting-edge technology with Equinix’s global infrastructure and vendor-neutral connectivity solutions enables efficient AI inference at scale. Our customers at Equinix will be able to securely tap into GroqCloud and lead on innovation within their enterprise.”
Groq confronting surging demand
Groq, supported by investments from Samsung and Cisco, currently operates data centres in the US, Canada and Saudi Arabia.
Groq’s pioneering Language Processing Unit (LPU) and associated hardware are developed to fast-track AI workload inference processing.
The venture into Europe is designed to capitalise on growing interest and demand for AI products and services, achieving this through high-performance, scalable infrastructure.
With data centres springing up across competitive regions like the Nordics – known for abundant renewable energy and cool climates – Groq’s entry is timely.
This expansion augments its existing infrastructures in the US, Canada and Saudi, which collectively account for over 20 million tokens processed per second, revealing Groq's global engagement and its capacity for widespread AI deployment.
More broadly, this development provides enterprises with the opportunity to leverage GroqCloud via private connections – removing the need to traverse the public internet, thereby bolstering data security and efficiency.
Jonathan adds: “With our new European data centre, customers get the lowest latency possible and infrastructure ready today.
“We're unlocking developer ambition now, not months from now.”
