Paul's appointment signals Davies' intention to expand its AI capabilities
Although the first Group Chief AI Officer role at the firm, the appointment of Paul O'Brien is one step in a long walk to building their AI strategy

Professional services and technology firm Davies is highlighting its commitment to AI by appointing Paul O'Brien as its first Group Chief AI Officer.

“As AI continues to play a crucial role in enhancing Davies client services and operations, this demonstrates our strong commitment to innovation and excellence,” says Jen Morrissey, Davies’ Chief Operations Officer.

This strategic move is part of a broader push by not only Davies, but enterprises as a whole to put AI as an integral part of their senior leadership so that it can be administered top down across its operations and services.

Expanding AI capabilities

The creation of this new C-suite position is not an isolated event, but rather the culmination of Davies' ongoing investment in AI technologies.

“As Chief AI & Technology Officer, I look forward to collaborating across the business to build on our existing AI capabilities and support our teams in leveraging rapidly evolving technologies,”  says Paul O’Brien on his new appointment.

One of the company's flagship AI solutions is Lauri, a claims technology portfolio that has revolutionised the processing of personal injury and credit hire claims.

Acquired as part of an acquisition of law firm Keoghs in 2020, Lauri has significantly reduced average handling times and improved the accuracy of claim valuations, demonstrating the tangible benefits of AI in the insurance sector.

Davies' commitment to AI extends beyond claims processing. The company has developed a Legal AI system that has processed over 15,000 claims to date, including Stage 3 packs, quantum disputes, and motor damage recovery cases.

Equally, Davies' AI push can be seen in its Claims AI system, known as Kuarterback. This technology can handle up to 85% of low-value claims, converting content into structured data fields for automatic processing.

By reducing data entry errors and speeding up claims processing, Davies is demonstrating how AI can enhance efficiency and customer service in insurance operations.

An AI-filled future

Paul's appointment signals Davies' intention to consolidate and expand its AI capabilities.

In his new role, he will be responsible for developing a core strategy for the ethical use of Gen AI and expanding AI technologies across the company's products and services.

This is important because of the growing interest the technology has had in enterprise applications.

“In a time where Gen AI is rapidly reshaping business landscapes, Davies is proactively positioning itself at the forefront by appointing Paul to this critical role,” explains Jen.

By creating a dedicated C-suite position for AI and continuing to invest in AI-driven solutions, Davies is positioning itself to move with AI as it continues to digitally transform itself and offerings.

innovation within the professional services and insurance technology space. As the company continues to grow and expand its AI capabilities, it will be interesting to see how this strategy shapes the future of insurance and claims processing.
