Canva Integrates AI Image Generation After Leonardo Deal
Canva, the visual design and collaboration software company, has integrated technology from its Leonardo.ai acquisition to strengthen its enterprise offering through AI-powered design tools.
The integration arrives as Canva reports annualised revenue of £2.5 billion, with its user base growing by 115 million over 24 months to exceed 200 million monthly active users.
AI integration for enterprise
Dream Lab, Canva’s new generative AI tool, incorporates Leonardo.ai’s Phoenix foundational model - a machine learning system trained on image data. The system generates variations of images in 15 styles, including 3D renders and illustrations. Users can generate stock photos matching company brand guidelines by using existing images as style references.
The move follows Canva's acquisition of Leonardo.ai, positioning the company to compete in the enterprise AI space. The integration operates within Canva Shield, the company's AI safety framework which implements content filtering and moderation.
“We're incredibly excited to now be empowering more than 200 million people in nearly every country across the globe. From over 95% of the Fortune 500 to millions of small businesses, classrooms and nonprofits, it's certainly an exciting milestone but we feel we're still just 1% of the way there,” says Melanie Perkins, Canva’s Co-Founder and CEO.
Enterprise customers including NYSE, Atlassian, HP, DHL Express and DocuSign have adopted Canva Enterprise, the company's large organisation subscription. Users have created 30 billion designs on the platform, with AI tool usage reaching 10 billion instances.
Platform updates
Canva has expanded its Visual Suite with features targeting enterprise workflows. These include AI-powered sorting and summarising in digital whiteboards, contextual text generation, and automated video captioning that matches brand styles. New data visualisation options include area charts, radar charts and hierarchy charts.
Content partnerships with Artlist, a premium video and music library, and Pocstock, which provides diversity-focused stock photography, have expanded Canva's asset library. Pocstock's integration adds 150,000 photos to the platform.
Market development
In the UK market, where users created 145 million designs in the previous year, Canva has expanded its physical presence. The company has doubled its team size and acquired two buildings in London's Hoxton Square.
Usage metrics demonstrate enterprise adoption, with 2.5 billion presentations and 500 million documents created on the platform. The company's whiteboards feature has seen usage double, marking it as the fastest-growing product segment.
“As we double down on empowering everyone to turn their ideas into designs, we're introducing dozens of new features across our Visual Suite at the intersection of creativity and productivity,” says Melanie Perkins. “From more interactive designs to a suite of AI-powered upgrades, we hope these new features help our community to continue achieving their goals.”
