Amazon Web Services' new App Studio offers low-code solutions so those not too familiar with code create applications for internal processes in minutes

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced the introduction of a new service that can see app development go from months to minutes.

Introducing AWS App Studio. This innovative platform harnesses the power of Gen AI to enable technical professionals, even those without traditional software development skills, to create apps seamlessly and speedily.

“AWS App Studio opens up application development to an entirely new set of builders, helping them create enterprise-grade applications in minutes,” said Dilip Kumar, Vice President of Applications at AWS.

“Designed to meet the needs of the largest enterprise customers and fastest growing startups, App Studio is a force multiplier for technical employees at any company,” Dilip explained.

A look at App Studio

At its core, AWS App Studio addresses a pervasive challenge faced by organisations across industries: the efficient management of internal processes.

From hospital procurement teams tracking medical supplies to property managers monitoring housing inventory, without an app, many businesses will use spreadsheets and documents to manage critical operations.

These methods may not only be time-consuming, error-prone, and difficult to scale, but lack some more dedicated features an app can provide - like tracking updates, reminders and automated functions.

Equally, trying to plug this data into their overarching systems can prove challenging, making organisational overview difficult.

Enter AWS App Studio. With this new service, users can simply describe their desired application, its functions, and the data sources they wish to integrate.

The AI-powered system then takes over, generating a fully functional application in minutes. This leap in efficiency is not just about speed; it's about empowerment.

Usually, the time and costs associated with creating an AI app for functions within a company would prove a stumbling block for it getting off the ground.

Equally, IT project managers, data engineers, and enterprise architects, knowledgeable in their own areas but unfamiliar with coding, can now create and implement tailored solutions for their specific needs.

One of Gen AI’s biggest utilisations in enterprise has turned out to be code generation. These advanced systems can generate entire code snippets, complete functions, and even debug existing code with remarkable accuracy.

Whereas previously the solution was low-code, Gen AI applications like this have helped move it closer to no code.

From UI design to workflow building and application testing, the platform simplifies complex tasks while ensuring that every application meets enterprise-grade security standards.

Lowering code, lowering cost

Cost-effectiveness is another key feature of AWS App Studio. While it's free to build applications, customers only pay for the time employees spend using the published apps.

This can mean that companies have the infrastructure on hand for critical, but infrequent functions, they wish to have automated but previously felt unable to justify the costs for doing so.

AWS claims such a model could lead to savings of up to 80% compared to other low-code offerings, making it an attractive option for businesses of all sizes.

Furthermore, App Studio's seamless integration with existing AWS services and third-party tools ensures it can fit into various tech ecosystems.

In an increasingly digital world, where agility and efficiency are paramount, AWS App Studio’s launch marks a significant step towards democratising application development, and upgrading companies’ internal operations.
