How Workday Revolutionises AI Management in Business

Enterprises face a new and rapidly evolving set of challenges brought on by the rapid adoption of AI technologies, which are reshaping how businesses operate and requiring new systems for their management and integration.
A key challenge for business adopting AI tools is the best approach to managing the integration of digital and human workforces simultaneously, ensuring they coexist effectively to enhance company efficiency and innovation.
The integration of AI into business processes is challenging and requires careful orchestration and oversight to avoid potential issues such as data-related problems, change management challenges, complexity around regulatory and legal frameworks, and integration with existing systems and technologies.
To tackle these challenges and help businesses overcome potential complexity, Workday has launched an innovative platform known as The Agent System of Record.
The agentic AI-powered platform offers businesses the ability to manage, build, deploy, control and orchestrate their AI tools, ensuring they are as manageable as their human counterparts.
Empowering businesses with comprehensive AI control
The purpose of The Agent System of Record is to centralise the control of AI applications.
The system supports solutions developed by Workday, as well as third-party implemented tools to tackle the growing complexity of AI resources deployment while also upholding security and operational efficiency.
One of the main challenges enterprises face, according to many business leaders, is governing the rapidly expanding digital tools.
- Centralised AI agent management
- AI agent marketplace
- New role-based AI agents
- Security & compliance
- Cost & performance optimisation
With The Agent System of Record, organisations can now onboard new AI agents, set their operational metrics, track their performance and monitor associated costs - all from a unified platform.
This aggregation not only streamlines processes but also fortifies compliance, security and the ability to determine the return on AI investment.
Aneel Bhusri, Co-Founder and Executive Chair at Workday, says: "The workforce of the future will include both humans and AI agents, and businesses that don't learn to manage this incredibly complex reality will fall quickly behind."
Carl Eschenbach, CEO at Workday, says: "As the system of record for more than 10,500 organisations around the world, there is no one better than Workday to manage every part of the workforce – employees, contingent workers and agents – on our trusted platform."
Specialised AI agents
Expanding upon its enterprise solutions, Workday has also introduced a suite of AI agents tailored to specific business functions like contract analysis, payroll processing, financial auditing and policy management.
Each agent is designed to adapt to a variety of tasks, thereby providing flexible and dynamic support to human teams.
For instance, the contract analysis agent scrutinises agreements to uncover crucial data points, while the payroll agent enhances compliance and processing efficiency.
On the other hand, a financial auditing agent ensures smooth financial operations by linking documents and transactions for quick reconciliations.
These AI agents are available through the Workday Marketplace, where customers can explore and integrate these solutions seamlessly with their existing systems.
Endorsements by industry leaders
The new management platform has garnered support from major industry players.
Adam Evans, Executive Vice President and General Manager at Salesforce AI, explains: "Workday is making it easy to incorporate and manage AI agents right alongside human workforces to augment employee bases with always-on digital labour."
Winston Weinberg, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Harvey, states: "By centrally managing agents and ensuring they adhere to the same strict access controls and compliance standards as human employees, Workday is building the foundation for a truly trusted and secure AI-powered workforce."
Swami Sivasubramanian, Vice President of Data and AI at AWS, highlights: "With Workday's Agent System of Record, organisations will be much better positioned to ethically manage all these agents.
“We're excited to collaborate with Workday to reshape the future of work through agentic AI."
Matt Castonguay, Chief Financial Officer at Team Car Care, explains: "At Team Car Care, we've already experienced firsthand the power of Workday's AI capabilities, which are making a real impact on our bottom line."
The Workday Agent System of Record and new role-based AI agents are in development and expected to launch later in 2025.
Steve Chase, Vice Chair of AI and Digital Innovation at KPMG LLP, highlights: "Digital colleagues, or AI agents, will become an increasingly common addition to the workforce and Workday's Agent System of Record is well positioned to help organisations meet the moment of monumental change."
