Google Cloud has been selected as Principal Artificial Intelligence Partner of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, signalling a new era of AI-powered transformation on and off the track

The deal extends a pre-existing partnership which saw the pair join forces in January 2025.

Formed in a bid to demonstrate AI's potential when it comes to driving positive impact across Formula E's business operations, the multi-year collaboration relates to development, fan experiences and the races themselves.

“Formula E is a hub of innovation, where milliseconds can define success,” says Tara Brady, President of Google Cloud EMEA.

“This expanded partnership is a testament to the power of Google Cloud's AI and data analytics, showing how our technology can deliver a competitive advantage in the most demanding scenarios.”

How AI is transforming motorsport

Formula E is set to integrate Google's Gemini models across its ecosystem to accelerate performance, deliver faster and more efficient operations, and pioneer innovation on a global stage.

Already, the collaboration has paved the way for Formula E to set the indoor land speed record and pioneer the Mountain Recharge project, which saw Google's AI Studio and Gemini models used to map the optimal route for the GENBETA car's mountain descent.

Starting with a battery life of just 1%, the vehicle generated all the power required to complete a full lap of the Monaco circuit through regenerative braking.

Google's tools helped to identify and analyse the precise zones where the car needed to brake, so as to generate enough energy to complete the lap.

“Our expanded partnership with Google Cloud is a true game-changer for Formula E and for motorsport as a whole,” says Jeff Dodds, CEO of Formula E. “We are already pushing the boundaries of technology in sport and this Principal Partnership confirms our vision.

“The integration of Google Cloud's AI capabilities will unlock a new dimension of real-time performance optimisation and strategic decision-making, both for the championship and for our global broadcast audience.

“This collaboration will redefine how fans experience our races and set a new benchmark for technology integration in sport worldwide.”

Partnership for a greener racetrack and improved fan experience

As the world's first all-electric FIA World Championship and the only sport certified net-zero carbon since inception, the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship is already a leading contributor in electric vehicle innovation.

As an elite motorsport platform for the world's leading automotive manufacturers to push the boundaries of EV technology, Formula E’s sustainability ambitions are further enhanced through the Google Cloud Partnership, with AI now used to considerably improve agility and energy efficiency across Formula E’s entire ecosystem.

By using digital twins for races and events, Formula E can further reduce its carbon footprint as it can simulate and optimise site builds virtually, thereby minimising the need for on-site reconnaissance and heavy equipment transport.

Elsewhere, Google's AI capabilities are set to serve up a better racing experience for fans, with Formula E having already adapted a new Strategy Agent into live broadcasts.

The AI agent delivers a deeper understanding of race dynamics, driver performance and strategy to fans in real time through tailored insights, predictions and explanations as the action unfolds, bringing global fans closer to the action.
